It’s hard to change the world when a woman cannot even afford to change her period pad.
In Malawi, most women and girls cannot afford sanitary products and have only ever used cloth rags for their periods.
Without the ability to afford menstrual products:
90% of women suffer from permanent nappy rash from using cloth rags
1 in 10 girls in Sub-Saharan Africa miss school during their period
Each girl will be 145 days behind her classmates, just because she has a period
Girls feel embarrassed and worry about smelling, leaks, and stains on their clothing from their periods
“Thank you so much for this cup. It has changed my life. I can go to work now without worrying about staining my clothes and smelling bad when it is hot.”
“I find school so much easier now that I have my cup. I can stand up to answer questions. I don’t worry about stains on my skirt and the boys and other girls teasing me. I can play netball whenever I want to.”
“My husband is so happy for me now I have a cup. He says that there is no smell from my rags in the house and we don’t have to worry about blood on the bedsheets every month.”
“Thank you so much for my cup. I can go to school without worrying about changing my rag. A cup is so much easier to use and it’s so comfortable.”
